Worthwhile Home Improvement Jobs To Do In Winter?

As home improvement specialist, we get asked a variety of questions about home remodels. With 2015 coming to a close, we decided to share some valuable information about cooler weather home remodeling and how this time of year can be beneficial for starting or finishing your home improvement project.

Fall Home Improvement Projects
For starters, cooler weather opens up remodeling opportunities that warm/hot weather doesn’t allow for. Take for example, painting. We generally recommend repainting the exterior of your home every 8 years to keep it looking fresh and attractive. However, many home owners take on this task during the hot summer months. Some may even opt to hire contractors to do the job for them. But what you may not realize is that higher temperatures equal higher costs on exterior home improvements.

So what can you do?
Instead of heading for the paint store the first of June, wait until the fall. In LA County the fall season is mild yet still warm enough for paint to dry correctly. Having your home painted in fall can also reduce the cost, as most contractors lower their prices during the cooler months. Another great project for the winter and fall season is building a deck or adding on a room. The price of supplies like lumber, concrete, and finishes are considerably lower in the off-season, so your total cost of remodeling can be dramatically reduced. Fall remodeling can also reduce your cost on heating and cooling as contractors tend to venture in and out of your home, and fall is a season where windows and doors have a propensity to stay open anyways.

If you plan on hiring a contractor to help you remodel your home this fall, give us a call. We would love to help you finish that remodeling project you’ve been dying to do. We look forward to hearing from you!
